 After completing his 3 year active duty enlistment in the US Navy, Mr. Sutherland earned a Bachelor’s degree in economics then a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of California, Irvine. He then founded and built a turnaround management consulting firm which eventually grew to open offices in Washington, Idaho, and two in California. He was appointed to manage numerous companies by various boards of directors and banks. Through 1997 Mr. Sutherland managed or advised over 40 different distributors, manufacturers, and service companies with revenues from $2 million to $185 million. With his own capital he later acquired and sold three separate companies in California and a one in Florida. He has firsthand experience in merging companies as well forming joint ventures and strategic alliances. Through a Los Angeles based private equity fund he founded in 1997 and again through a second private equity firm based in Sydney, Australia which he co-founded in 2006 he has directly provided capital in the form of equity and debt to a number of additional companies in the US and Australia.

 In 2004 Mr. Sutherland personally acquired a Los Angeles based mergers & acquisition firm which then became an investment bank representing middle market companies with revenues from US$5 million to US$200 million. The firm has valued and sold over 1,750 US businesses and manages and maintains an in-house proprietary database of over 6,600 private equity groups (5,700 in the U.S. plus over 900 internationally), plus several thousand banks, financial institutions, hedge funds, public & private pension funds, insurance companies, family offices, master funds, university endowment funds, sovereign wealth funds, other financial asset management firms, and wealthy private investors. The firm has expanded by developing an online private exchange equity and debt solution for large privately held companies as well subscription solutions for microenterprises which are on the market anywhere in the world.

 Along with his MBA Mr. Sutherland holds the Series 7 (General Securities), Series 66 (Uniform Combined Securities Agent and Investment Advisor), and Series 79 (Investment Banking) licenses from the U.S. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA); a broker’s license from the California Department of Real Estate; and the real estate registration from Australia’s REIQ. Mr. Sutherland has been published and featured in a number of periodicals and has been a guest speaker for a number of trade and industry organizations.
